Why the Sudan stuff on this blog?

That’s a good question.

Most of what appears on this blog seems to be related to our family and what we’re up to at any given time.  After darkness, light is my other blog and what happens over there has more to do with theory, the abstract, thoughts, and beliefs.  (By the way, I tried to explain “abstract” to one of our seven-year-old twins and it didn’t get very far.)

This blog is more of the practical, the concrete, actions, and the living-out of beliefs.  Sometimes the lines between the two dimensions are blurred, sometimes they’re more clear-cut.  In the first post on this blog, which is also the contents of the About page, I wrote,

I’m expecting this to be a place to log (blog?) ponderings and happenings about our life, and especially how our life and faith in Jesus Christ integrate with each other.  C. S. Lewis said, “I believe in God like I believe in the sun, not because I can see it, but because of it all things are seen.”  So this blog will be about all the things that are seen.

If you’ve been following what I’m saying here, I think you’ll be able to see why it’s not out-of-line to have two posts about the needs of suffering people in Sudan immediately after the 2008 – The year in review post.  From our perspective there are not clear lines of distinction between the various areas of our life.  Simply stated, Jesus Christ is Lord over all of our life, as he is Lord over all the universe, with no exceptions.  Do we live that out perfectly?  No.  We are still sinners, though sinners covered by the blood of Jesus and his atoning work on the cross.

So we’ll continue working, and biking, and learning, and living, but I think that our concerns for our fellow human beings, especially the ones in great need, will be growing in the coming months and years.  We’re looking forward to what God will do with this and how he’ll be using us in his kingdom.

Make Way Partners – Sudan video

Earlier this morning I posted a version of this video that did not have the additional editing by, I believe, Focus on the Family.  The editing helps to understand what you’re seeing in the video.

(Thanks to Audrey at Make Way Partners for helping out with this.)

More videos from Make Way Partners are available here.

Guest blog (sort of): Life is Hell (in Sudan) – keep reading…

We received the contents of this blog post in an email this morning, and it is also the latest post on Kimberly Smith’s blog.  It is both sobering and inspiring at the same time, as much of what happens in other parts of the world can be.  There is a link to a video that shows some of what Make Way Partners is up against in Sudan, and what they’re doing about it.  I introduced Make Way Partners to the readers of this blog on my “Ideas for giving” page a few days ago.
